Weekly Clinics

the past year has brought forth some exciting  new opportunities. With both the economical and equine climates changing,I found myself [for the first time]with time  in my schedule to pursue other ventures.Little did I realize, when Colleen Ebner and the Lopin’ Ladies came knocking, that it would be the start of such a fulfilling journey.Tuesdays are now filled with enthusiastic novice amateurs, many of them Paint horse owners and breeders, learning the skills of Showmanship and Trail. They execute Horsemanship patterns, and the finesse of showing a pleasure horse.A solid core of regulars prepares for both local level, and breed, competition, while an assortment of dropins gets a tune up,and homework,as their schedules allow.Traveling to a facility, such as Colleen has set up, has made it possible for a variety of horse owners to access  help.It has enabled them to  increase their knowledge, and awareness of range of options with their equine partners. And it has helped to keep me fresh as a coach ,and trainer. On a personal note,it gives Chris a ‘wife free’ day in the barn! This past weekend saw both Colleen and Margo compete at the LMQHA/APHA show in Langley, finishing in the top four in Showmanship and Halter, behind the ‘big girls’.They are both qualified for the Western Heritage Finals later this year, and plan on doing several more Paint shows as well, possibly bringing along several of the other ‘up and comings’.Stay tuned, more to follow

Monthly Clinics

One of the best parts of this job is travelling to new places, meeting new people, and seeing new horses; the other best part is being able to help those who want help.  There is a group of horse enthusiasts in Powell River,B.C. who fit all these criteria. They live on a non-island [two ferries, but not an island!!] and they are serious about upgrading their riding skills.  Most of them do not have riding rings let alone arenas, nor do they have trailers, but they make it work.  They make me re-evaluate qualities like dedication, and perseverance, and commitment.  Snow, sleet, power outages…keep riding, keep coaching.  Planes can’t fly in, ferries can’t run…keep riding, keep coaching.  So to Diana/Jess Skillen, Kelly Lillies, and the group, many of whom are Jinglin’ Spurs 4-H Club members, a big show of respect from those of us who have it so much easier!!!  You are exceptional.
